My students regularly ask me about the school play - and which one we're doing next year and all of that. I've been promising my students for years that we'd be doing a musical next year, naively thinking that I'd be on maternity leave THIS year (which I'm not). SO. that suddenly leaves my plans for next year up in the air. My hopes and dreams are that I won't be at school, and because of that, it makes it hard for me to tell students to plan for ANYTHING next year, because if they get their hopes up, and then someone else is doing a play - it would be disappointing. As well, I would be a little choked if the one year we get to do a musical is the year I'm not around to be a part of it and do it up properly...
SO, when my students ask about it, I kind of lead them down the road from "I may not be here next year" to the why. Once students put two and two together, they usually don't say anything about the fact that I'm trying to have a kid. EXCEPT yesterday.
I have this WONDERFUL student in my Grade 10 class. I love him to bits, as does everyone, but he's a little young and a little innocent and just wonderful because of it. Everyone in his class can't help but love him as well, but there are times that we laugh at what he says. SO, yesterday in my Grade 10 class kids started asking, and so I told them what I've been telling students, and suddenly this kid comes out with ... "Are You Getting a BABY??". I just LAUGHED and responded IN MY HEAD with... "Why yes, I'm going to the store right after school to pick one out..."
So I told him that I had NOTHING to announce to them, but IF and when I did, I would be sure to announce it. "And when you announce it...will you tell us?" was his next question.
He's so sweet - but it's impossible not to laugh.

BUSY!!
On a side note: I just ACTUALLY wrote busty instead of busy at the beginning of this blog post!! OOPS! It's been a while - I'm back at school and can instantly feel the busy-ness creeping up again. Which is, of course, why I haven't posted much this week. It's amazing - when you're not working, you can go out every night and do stuff and enjoy it, but as soon as I put a full time job in there as well, suddenly I cherish my evenings at HOME so much more! The desire to go out and visit others just isn't there anymore. I've been riding the bike all week - and I love the freedom it gives me, but I kinda miss Brad and all the hang out time we had when we drove together. As well, we would tend not to go home after work - so now we meet at home and we're both settled in and we don't go out again - we're going to have to work on that!!
BUT - it's good to be back at school, and I'm doing stuff that I should have done years ago and that will make me a better teacher (thanks to the Government expecting a ridiculous amount of stuff from us - some a waste of time (Government course outlines with IRP's), other stuff useful (Unit overviews for each unit I teach). So - I've finished ALMOST all of it - and that's a good feeling. My goal for the weekend - finish off that ONE last course, pick up my passport and hang out with Brad!!
Off to work!

What's Up in my life...
Well - if my life was a juggling act, the way it would look right now would be me with a bunch of balls in the air. Some are fun (like riding a motorcycle), some are work (dealing with pictures is consuming a lot of time right now), some are literally work (did you all know I'm the church secretary at my church?), and some are simply what comes with living (seeing friends, spending time with Brad, sleeping, eating etc). Now imagine that I have an incredibly able bodied assistant (because I'm not stupid enough to hire an un-able bodied assistant) who is holding three really big meat cleavers, or swords or flaming torches, (or one of each, what the heck, why not). In two weeks, my assistant will hurl those murderous weapons at my head as fast as possible. One I will attempt to catch is adding an almost full time job (teaching) to my current workload, adding a play with Gallery 7 into my evenings...and my weekends - HA!! For the first three weekends after school (and the play) begin I am consumed with things, one a mere Saturday, the other two full weddings, one of which is in Portland. After which weddings, I will have to once again process all the pictures & put together books & give people CD's and all of that. AUGHHH!!!
Not that I'm worried about it at all. My one concern is, IF (and that is still an IF) if there is a baby in the picture, and my exhaustion returns the way it did last time I was pregnant, then all the late nights and the time consumption and the lack of time to just rest & relax may suddenly become much too overwhelming. And if morning sickness is also involved, well, that would be like my cruel evil and yet incredibly able bodied assistant starting up a chainsaw and throwing that into the mix without me even knowing about it, because he decided to blindfold me first.
So, in conclusion - yes, I plan on being just slightly busy for the next two months, but after that, things will slow down to merely completely insane.
My two requests:
1. Pray (if you're the type)
2. Don't be offended if I don't call you every other night like I usually do, or bring you soup when you're sick, or clean your house on the weekends, or even if the blogging slows down a bit **GASP**, as you can see, I'm busy and can't handle any more chainsaws.

Restitis
I'm discovering that I have a certain disease - I actually think it's a pretty common disease. It's called restitis (my term), which, of course means that I'm allergic to rest. Here's two examples. This Spring Break I didn't want to teach the Friday before it - which I'm sure is a common phenomena. I was feeling a LITTLE tired & under the weather, but nothing to miss school over, but I decided to ask for the day off on Friday anyway - why not - what's the worst a little extra sleep can do? Well - I got SO sick that I could barely talk on Friday - and remained sick for most of the holiday, recovering just in time for school to be back in session. Now, at the time I was pregnant and not super excited about taking extra pills and drugs to stay remotely ok, so I suffered big time.
It's the end of the year. Now, the year doesn't end the same way it does in March where you're Teaching, then OFF and then Teaching again. No, the end of the year DRAGS on, due to being finished teaching two weeks before school is officially over, which means rather than getting full blown sick right off, I've been suffering with a runny nose, a sore throat, coughing and more bit by bit, piece by piece as the week goes on. It means I'm not being terribly effective or efficient because I'm not feeling great - and it means I'm not being super happy about going TO work, but don't really have a reason to call in "sniffling". I'm hoping that I get over this before July - because if this is all just leading up to something worse once school's officially over - I won't be too happy.
Ah well. Otherwise Life is Good. and since I've known about restitis for some time, I was kind of expecting it and I'm glad it's not worse this year.
Enjoy your day!
